Chrome Library Extension checks our catalog while you shop online

If you like to browse on Amazon and check our catalog to see if we own the books you’re looking for, here’s a nifty shortcut for Google Chrome users: add the Library Extension, and a little box will pop up telling you if we own it and also link to our catalog so you can request it!  Here’s the how-to:

1.  Go to the Google Chrome Web Store

2. Search for “library” under “Extensions”, and install the Library Extension

3. Go to Amazon.com.  You will see a little stack of books in the address bar, next to the bookmarking star.  When you click on it, you can select your state and library from the drop down menus, and click the green + button to add.

4. Now when you browse, you will see an extra sidebar that tells you whether Wadleigh Library owns the book, and there will be a link to request it!

This extension does not yet search for movies or music, but this is still a great shortcut when you are browsing for books!

I love this idea, but I’m using Firefox and can’t find an extension that does this there. Do you know of one?

I looked and didn’t see anything similar either – one that appeared similar didn’t allow me to add the library… hopefully someone will develop an extension for Firefox soon!!
